Maisie Sibbison-Alves
Licensed Massage Therapist

I bring over 12 years of experience to the practice of Zen Shiatsu and massage therapy, working in Providence, Philadelphia and New York City. I studied with master practitioner Shunji Morimoto of Wendell, MA and graduated from the Philadelphia School of Massage and Bodywork in 2017. I am a life long learner of massage technique and theory. My hybrid practice offers ways to realign energetic fields while also giving relief to structural aspects of the body.
I am here to help with a wide range of needs, from injury recovery to chronic pain management, athletic performance, pre and peri-natal, digestive issues, and for overall heath and relaxation.

Zen Shiatsu

Performed on a floor mat fully clothed I use elbows, knees and hands to support and deeply work and stretch the whole body.
Deep Tissue and Swedish Table Massage

Working gentle or deep, I bring my background in Shiatsu and Western anatomy to standard table massage, focusing on targeted areas or the whole body.
What is Zen Shiatsu?

After World War II, a number of teachers emerged who saught to consolidate the myriad healing traditions of Japan. Zen Shiatsu was the brainchild of one such teacher, Shizuto Masunaga (1925-1981). His work consolidated different practices and philosophies and gave them specific form in shiatsu.
Performed fully clothed on a floor futon, the practitioner uses elbows and knees to lean on, twist, and stretch the whole body. Meridian systems are used to balance the body's systems, with an emphasis on abdominal work.
